Summer Yin Yoga Chillout
Date: Saturday, June 24th
Appreciate the fire of summer energy by dwelling in cooling yin practices of long yoga holds, quiet reflection and nurturing breathwork. The "yang" forces of intensity and focus become balanced with the yin forces of patience and receptiveness. Learn how our internal organs and energy lines are tuned to the summer season and are influenced by our movement and molding of the myofascial tissue.
Topics covered in this workshop will be the following:
Seasonality: Summer is the season of maturity, growth, and action. It is one season in a cycle of birth, action, harvest, gathering and rest. Every process has a “summer phase”.
Mixing yoga and Chinese tradition: We can use concepts of the Chinese five element model to inform our yoga practice.
The summer element of “fire:" A summer analogue is the pea plant which sprouts, and climbs. It becomes mature enough to blossom and set fruit.
The organ of the heart and the triple burner: Western and eastern perceptions of the engine of emotion.
The organ of the small intestine and pericardium:Western and eastern perceptions of the "organs of alchemy."
Yoga concepts of ahimsa and tapas: Universal tenets and personal practices for the spring season.
How heart and small intestine relate to anahata and svadisthana chakras, and how triple burner and pericaridum relate to central channel.
Using breath to mentally sooth meridian paths.
Exercises to inhale up the yin meridians of the liver and exhale down the yang meridians of the gallbladder.
Investment: $35 regular, $30 seniors/students/military/monthly membership holders
Beginner Yoga Series Class
Dates: Wednesdays June 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, July 5th, and 12th.
Are you interested in trying yoga, but don't know where to start? Justine's six-week Beginner Yoga series from Wednesdays June 7th-July 12th, 7:30-8:30pm will start from the beginning - the breath - and then progress systematically through many accessible yoga postures, including standing postures, seated postures, reclining postures, and flows with the breath. Justine provides a fun, non-intimidating atmosphere for new practitioners to explore the beginning of their practice.
This class is for all shapes, sizes, levels of strength, and levels of flexibility. You don't have to already be flexible to practice yoga!
Unlike a usual yoga class, these workshop-style classes will encourage participants to "speak out" and ask questions about the postures and how they feel in their bodies, and participants will also learn modifications to each posture to help it feel good in their own body.
By the end of the series, participants should feel confident to attend regular drop in classes, be familiar with the kinds of postures that are offered in the various styles of classes at Ananda Yoga, and also have the knowledge to start developing a short home practice.
Investment: $90 for the series, $80 for students, seniors, and military. Click below to preregister.
Preregistration is required. Minimum five people preregistered for the series to run.
Series classes policy: Signing up for a series class is a commitment to take all the classes in the series. Series classes are non-refundable. No refunds will be provided for any reason. One missed class in the series can be credited as a drop in class for any other class at Ananda Yoga, but no further missed classes will be credited.
