Frequently Asked Questions

Justine and Chris in box pose, Michele in Downward Facing DogWhat does Ananda mean?

Ananda means bliss. It is the bliss that is available any time, anywhere, no matter what is happening in life. Practicing yoga is one of many ways to connect to that blissful state.

What should I bring to a yoga class?

Bring a yoga mat and water. If you do not have a yoga mat, there are some available to borrow at the studio. If you are coming to a heated class, a towel to cover your mat is recommended.

What should I wear to a yoga class?

Wear clean, comfortable clothing you can move in. Stretchy workout clothing that will stay put but also move with you is best. Baggy clothing is not recommended as it can fall "up" during inverted postures.

Can I practice yoga if I am not flexible?

Yes! Yoga can be practiced by anyone at any level of flexibility! Postures can be modified to accommodate different levels of flexibility and strength.

What yoga props do you have available at the studio?

We have foam and cork blocks, straps, sandbags, bolsters, and blankets. For mobility work, we have PVC pipes, lacrosse balls, tennis balls, and softballs.

What is a community class?

A community class is a pay-what-you-can-afford class to make yoga more accessible to anyone who would like to practice. In exchange for taking the yoga class at a discounted rate, practitioners are encouraged help the studio in some other way i.e. review us online, bring friends, post about us on your social networks, etc. Students may also use their class cards to pay for the community class. There is one community class on the schedule Tuesdays from 5:30-7:15pm.

Can yoga classes be reimbursed by health insurance?

Good news: they might be! Check with your provider to see if your plan allows for reimbursement for yoga classes. Fallon Community Health Plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Health New England and Oxford Health Plans, to name a few, do reimburse for yoga classes on certain plans! We can provide a receipt for your insurance as needed.

Where do I park?

Ananda Yoga has ample free parking in the parking lot in front of the building.

Do class cards expire?

Our studio is one of the only studios in the Pioneer Valley that has no expiration dates on ten or fifteen class cards, so you will never lose yoga classes for which you have already paid! No worries if you get sick, go out of town or have to nurse an injury. Your classes will still be available when you return.

Unlimited memberships expire after one month.

Can the expiration date of an unlimited membership be extended?

Unlimited memberships not be extended.

Can a class card be shared?

You may share your ten or fifteen class card with anybody! A family unlimited membership also may be shared between two family members living in the same household. Single unlimited memberships may not be shared.

What methods of payment are accepted?

Cash, check and credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express and Discover) are accepted. As we are a small business, we prefer checks or cash. You may also purchase class cards on this page.

What is a series class?

Series classes require preregistration and prepayment at the beginning of the series. You can preregister online or in the studio. Preregistration is a commitment to take the class every week for the series.

What if I sign up for a series and miss a class?

A single missed class may be credited as a drop in class to any other class at Ananda. No refunds are provided, and no further missed classes will be credited.

Are group rates available?

Group rates are available for any employer, corporation or small business who would like to promote the health of their employees by providing free or discounted yoga classes. Contact Justine for more information.

Are group private classes available?

Yes. The rate depends on the number of participants and the number of classes desired. Contact Justine to schedule a group private class.

Can I get a refund on a class card or gift certificate if I don't use it?

No refunds will be provided for class cards or gift certificates. Remaining classes on a card can be transfered to a friend or relative if needed.

Can I get a refund on a portion of a private session package if I don't use all the sessions?

No refunds are provided for private lesson packages, as these are offered at a special discounted rate that is not available when paying for a single session. The prepaid sessions never expire, so you can always finish your package at a later date.

If I buy a monthly membership, does it include special classes and workshops?

The monthly membership includes all regularly scheduled weekly classes. It does not include workshops, series classes, or special classes. (i.e. Partner Yoga Workshop, Candlelight Flow with Live Music) Monthly membership holders may attend these classes at a discounted rate to be determined for each class.
